Catching up
I've been working on a new batch of flash fiction short stories before I start school again and a few things have come to mind. for one, I'm realizing that most of the stories that I've gotten published do not get published in the same year that I've written them. that's why I try to keep a steady flow of writing so I can keep up with how often I submit. My list of stories has gotten a bit short recently so I want to bring it back up. Overall, this year has been very good for acceptances, but I don't want to lose momentum.
Sometimes it just takes a long time for a story to find its true home. The first short story I got published this year was something that I wrote back in summer of 2020 and have edited multiple times. I've submitted it more than any other short story and I didn't give up on it after almost four years because I was still confident that it would find a home somewhere. Of course, there were other stories along the way that I stopped submitting because I just didn't think the ideas worked very well, and that's fine. We shouldn't feel obligated to keep forcing a story that isn't working.
